Don’t point that finger at me!

The media blames violent tragedies on easy access to guns. Gun rights supporters blame violent movies. Those in the movie industry blame them on the fame created by the media. While each of these things may play a part, they all seem to miss the point that violence originates in the depravity of the sinful heart of fallen human beings.

Jesus said, “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemies, pride, foolishness; All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.” (Mark 7:21-23)

Let’s not get it backwards about this or any other sin. Transformation doesn’t begin by changing the outward appearance or environment. It comes from a radical spiritual work within.

“violent tragedies” do seem to happen more frequently these days. Access to weapons does not seem to have changed but there does seem to be a correlation to the rise of violence in video games. Not saying we should blames these things. Just observing that our country’s culture seems to have changed a lot since I was a boy.
