As we enter the new year and many are beginning plans to read through the Bible in the coming year, we’ve been looking at 2 Timothy 3 where Paul gives us four reasons we should study the Bible faithfully.
Reason #1 was because of the Bible’s source.
Reason #2 was because we have a command.
Reason #3 is because of Godly examples.
I conclude this study with Reason #4: Because of the blessings (v. 16b)
“All scripture . . . is profitable”
Paul lists several things for which the Bible is profitable: doctrine, reproof, correction, instruction in righteousness. Everything you might need. Consider some of the things the Bible is necessary for:
Spiritual Birth – Romans 10:17
“Faith comes by hearing, hearing by the Word of God.”
Spiritual Warfare – Ephesians 6:17
“The Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God.”
Spiritual Cleansing – Ephesians 5:26; John 15:3
“Sanctify and cleanse it (the church) by . . . the Word”.
Spiritual Growth – 1 Peter 2:2
“Desire . . . the Word that you may grow by it.”
Spiritual Discernment – Hebrews 5:12-14
“Everyone that uses milk is unskillful in the Word.”
Spiritual Ministry – 2 Timothy 3:16b
“Scripture is profitable.”
With a list of benefits like that studying the Word should be a high priority!
