The Blessing of Solitude

We are seldom solitary because even when we are alone we fill our days with noise – perhaps to avoid facing the loudest sound of all, the voice of our own thoughts. Though we are not intended for perpetual solitude, neither are we designed for continual distraction. It is not without reason that Jesus often went to lonely places for prayer (Mark 1:35). May our addiction to sensory stimulation not cause us to miss this blessedness of solitude.
